A New Vision for Cheadle Academy

The Cheadle Academy is a 50+ year old high school based in Cheadle, Staffordshire. The school is well known locally but has a lot of competition from another local school which has an excellent reputation.

The new principal wanted to make an impact and position The Cheadle Academy as a modern, forward-thinking school which should be the first-choice locally.

The Education Agency was commissioned to develop a new school logo and brand. Thanks to a referral TEA has taken what was an old-fashioned school logo and brought it to life, whilst retaining the school’s heritage and respecting its local roots.

The Project

Helping the principal to make her own legacy at the school and to leave her stamp locally, The Education Agency supported her with a roll out of a new logo. This included new signage, staff materials, promotional materials, a new prospectus and digital assets.

The Process

As this was such a personal project to the principal, and schools don’t change their branding lightly, The Education Agency spent time truly understanding the school and principal’s values, the legacy of the local area and the community spirit.

The team then worked together to develop four logo concepts which all represented something important locally and were mapped out to showcase how they would translate in multiple formats.

It came down to two logos which were presented to the SLT. The second logo wasn’t to go to waste however, as a further house values piece was to come off the back of this.

The Roll Out

Upon choosing the new school logo, The Education Agency designed and procured new school signage. 12 new signs were installed at the school, instantly enhancing its appearance.

Haywood Academy commissioned Plinkfizz to provide marketing collateral, social media strategy and media coverage of their new sixth form. Getting the detail right was crucial to the success of not only the opening of the sixth form but its ongoing reputation and levels of recruitment of staff and students.

Staffordshire Universities Academy Trust

The team would also embark on a series of training events to enable the Trusts’ staff and teaching staff to update the websites whenever they needed to. Allowing the schools greater control over their content and updates was a key factor in the success of this project.
