Is your school still not on Facebook? You’re missing out on being on one of the most important communication tools for your school.
Facebook has dominated social networking and is a great tool for your school to use to distribute important messages and information.
To create a page, you’ll need an account first. We suggest nominating someone to create the page from their account. This person will be the admin of the page, but you can add multiple admins later so they’re not solely responsible for updating you. If not, you’ll have to set up an account. The process of registration and setting up your profile only takes around 10-15 minutes.
Now you’re ready to start your Facebook page. To make it easy we have broken it down into 7 easy steps:
- Create the page
To do this go to the pages section on the homepage. This sits on the left-hand side.
- Pick a brand or community page
Facebook gives you two options of page types to set up, as a brand or community page. As this is for your school, we suggest making this a community page.
- School name & category
Put your school’s full name and choose education website as the category.
- Profile picture
You want this to be your school logo or something instantly recognisable and associated with your school.
size: 180 x 180 pixels
- Select a cover photo
The cover image sits at the top of your profile. When deciding on the relevant image think about branding. You could use a photo of some of your students or a school event.
- About
This is a short description that sits under your profile picture and describes your school. We suggest keeping this short and snappy. You just need to say the name of your school and add any relevant information you deem fit. This may be some contact details like an address, phone number and email address. You also want to add your website URL.
- Page Invites
People won’t know about your page, so you need to share it with them. You can do this by inviting people to like your page.
That’s it, 7 simple steps. Now you need to make it engaging to encourage people to follow it. We have created an Ultimate Facebook guide for schools to help you get the most out of your Facebook Page.
